Background of the Study
Supply chain security has become a critical concern for organizations due to risks such as counterfeiting, fraud, and inefficiencies. Blockchain technology offers a decentralized and immutable ledger that enhances traceability, transparency, and security in supply chain operations (Iansiti & Lakhani, 2023). In industries like cement production, where material authenticity and efficient delivery are crucial, blockchain applications can significantly enhance operational integrity.

Dangote Cement operates in Kano State, where logistical challenges and potential fraud in the supply chain pose significant threats. Blockchain adoption in this context could provide end-to-end visibility and ensure the integrity of transactions (Adeola & Kazeem, 2024). This study reviews blockchain applications in enhancing supply chain security at Dangote Cement, with a focus on its operational impacts and implementation challenges.

Statement of the Problem
The cement industry in Nigeria faces challenges including counterfeit products, inefficient tracking, and fraud in procurement processes. For Dangote Cement in Kano State, these issues compromise operational efficiency and erode customer trust. Blockchain technology holds promise for mitigating these challenges, yet its adoption in the Nigerian cement industry remains limited due to cost, technical expertise, and regulatory barriers (Obi & Sanni, 2023). This study explores how blockchain can address these challenges and improve supply chain security.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the role of blockchain applications in enhancing supply chain security at Dangote Cement in Kano State.
  2. To identify challenges associated with blockchain adoption in the Nigerian cement industry.
  3. To propose strategies for implementing blockchain technology effectively in supply chain operations.

Research Questions

  1. How does blockchain enhance supply chain security at Dangote Cement in Kano State?
  2. What challenges hinder blockchain adoption in the Nigerian cement industry?
  3. What strategies can facilitate the effective implementation of blockchain in supply chain operations?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Blockchain applications do not significantly enhance supply chain security at Dangote Cement.
  2. H0: Challenges associated with blockchain adoption do not significantly affect its implementation in the Nigerian cement industry.
  3. H0: Proposed strategies do not significantly improve blockchain adoption in supply chain operations.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on blockchain applications in supply chain security at Dangote Cement in Kano State. It examines operational impacts, challenges, and implementation strategies. Limitations include access to blockchain data, limited adoption across the industry, and rapidly evolving technology trends.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Blockchain Technology: A decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across multiple systems securely and transparently.
  2. Supply Chain Security: Measures taken to protect the integrity and reliability of supply chain processes.
  3. Counterfeit Products: Fake goods that imitate genuine products, often of inferior quality.
